    Description

    150 Watt Termination Dummy Load 50 Ohm in a 1.6" x 1.6" x 0.5" deep machined aluminum housing with a 2.2" piece of RG316 attached. Includes a cover plate.
The actual load is a EMC 5307ALN rated at 150 watts at 100 degrees C.  There is sufficient coax to install a connector or simply replace the coax.
The housing must be mounted to a heat sink or some large metal surface such as a chassis or rack rail to dissipate the heat in excess of 10 watts.
The housing should not exceed 100 degrees C, otherwise the maximum power must be de-rated.  Use a small amount of thermal compound when mounting.
Generally, stand-alone terminations over 50 watts are very large finned assemblies and may require a fan for proper cooling.
This requirement often times makes it difficult to organize the system elements in the cabinet, particularly when the load may rarely be radiating heat, such as a load for a circulator.
Thus, this type of termination is useful as several can be mounted on a common heat sink, or a portion of the cabinet or mounting rail can serve as the heat sink.
As compared to a stand-alone flange-mount resistor, above about 30 MHz the housing is necessary to maintain a good SWR between the resistor & coax, plus it provides a much larger mounting surface to transfer the heat, than the small resistor mounting flange would allow.
